As we delve deeper into the third and fourth designs in our latest collection of six kitchen looks, we explore the inspiration behind them with our head of design, Graeme Smith. Meet VIVID and LUXE.

VIVID

Inspired by nature

“With kitchens having been flooded by greys and blues for the past few years, green is now becoming one of our most sought after shades for bringing a touch of the outdoors in – echoed in the modern yet relaxed ambience of our VIVID look”.

Soft yet striking

“When thinking about introducing a bold colour in your home, a calming, muted shade like our Regiment Green can offer a soft, subtle way to make a statement. Set against Mid-Oak textured panelling, an expansive worksurface with earthy marbling, and luxurious brass highlights, this colour and texture combination creates a cosy mid-century vibe, and adds warmth and depth to an otherwise quite minimal look. But the real impact comes from the geometry of the open shelving, creating a strong, continuous, linear feel - also echoed in the big handleless cabinetry and striking worktop cascading over the edge”.

Wrapped in practicality

“In a big open space, it’s all about creating clearly defined zones, so that everything has a comfortable, purposeful place. This u-shaped design gives the feeling of an island with an imposing breakfast bar to separate off the living/dining area from the kitchen in its own area of calm. A sunken trough in the worktop also creates a practical wet and prep zone, with everything close to hand yet with separation from the raised outer worktop area where someone might pull up a chair”.

LUXE

A modern, unexpected opulence

“The word luxe, or luxury, is so subjective, and it’s often found in the unexpected. Our LUXE look demonstrates how combining shimmering highlights, smooth metallic finishes, and pops of gold with an abundance of rustic textures, can create a unique, rough-luxe kind of opulence for a warm, modern space.

The trick for grounding yet elevating a look, so that its neither too masculine or feminine, is to experiment with strong, statement, textures and accented highlights throughout the design. Although largely a monotone palette, this look creates excitement through a tonal spread of earthy hues and different textures and finishes. The main island and smaller cupboards are kept sleek and handleless so that the occasional pops of gold on the full height door handles really stand out”.

Hard-working at its core

“The island is the big statement here. The diagonal, bark-like worktop material, almost peels back to reveal the timber within, whilst creating a cosy little nook for a couple of bar stools. However, behind this structured, statement design, the whole kitchen is packed with functionality. Pocket doors slide open to reveal a bank of appliances and smart storage. There when you need them and closed neatly out of sight when you don’t. A great way to create a simple design which is easy to keep clutter-free”.
